Classroom Rules for The Big Red Choir
No food, beverages, or gum allowed in the choir rehearsal area.
Treat others with respect.
Take proper care of folders and music.
Return music folders to their proper places.
You must be in the gymnasium (choir room) when the final bell rings or you will need to get a pass from where you came.
You will have two minutes after this to get ready and take your place.
When I ask you to be quiet please do so.
Mrs Winsand has the same authority as me-so treat her accordingly.
No one is allowed to play the piano without permission.
You are expected to put forth your best effort at every rehearsal. If you are having a problem that keeps you from doing so, please let me know at the beginning of class.
We are here to become better musicians.
We are also here to have fun but not at the expense of others.
Any infraction of these rules will receive a verbal warning followed by a detention.
Generally, Choir will meet on Tuesday and Friday. Otherwise, you will go to your assigned study halls. If the schedule changes, I will give you at least one day’s notice. Normally the week before a performance, we will have Choir every day.
Daily Assignment
There is one daily assignment for everyone. Put your music folder and its contents away in it’s proper slot at the end of choir. Failure to do so will result in a two point deduction for all of those who use that folder
Grading Policy for Choir
Grades for each quarter in Choir are based an average of points received in different categories
Attitude and Effort 30 points
Daily Attendance 18 points
Concert Attendance 30 points each performance
Parent Signature Form 10 points
There will also be extra points (not extra credit) given for Solo & Ensemble.
If you are tardy or absent you will not receive a point for that day. If it is an unexcused tardy 2 points will be deducted. If it is an unexcused absence 5 points may be deducted.
Acceptable excuses for a missed concert are: Illness and family emergency. I must have a written note signed by your parent or guardian stating the reason you missed a performance by the next day you are in school in order for the absence to be considered excused.
If you do miss a performance and it is an excused absence, you will still be required to write a 1,000 word research paper, with bibliography, on an aspect of music agreed upon by both the student and the instructor. This will be due no later than 10 school days after the date of the missed performance and will be graded like any other research paper (spelling, punctuation, etc.).
Concert Dress
You are expected to provide your own attire for certain concerts during the year. If you are having a problem obtaining these items, please talk to Mr. Seitz immediately. If you have clothes from previous years make sure they still fit. In other words, don’t wait to try them on the night before a Concert. Concert dress will be required at the following programs: Fall Concert, Christmas, and Large Group Clinic. Concert dress is as follows:
Men: All white button down dress shirt with collar, tie, black pants, dark shoes.
Women: All WHITE shirt or blouse with sleeves, black pants or skirt, dark shoes. Modest length and neckline, please.
