WELCOME TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
SCHOOL DISTRICT OF GILMANTON
Your presence at a Board of Education meeting is always welcome.
THE DISTRICT: The School District of Gilmanton includes all or part of the following townships; Alma, Chimney Rock, Dover, Gilmanton, Lincoln, Modena, Mondovi, Montana and Naples.
The School District of Gilmanton is a member of CESA (Cooperative Educational Service Agency) #10. There are 3 schools in the district, the Gilmanton Elementary (grades PK-4), the Middle School (grades 5-8) and the High School (grades 9-12). The schools are located in Gilmanton at two sites.
These Board members and administrators are interested in maintaining open communication with residents of the school district. Anyone having specific questions relative to board policies or actions should not hesitate to call the District Office at 715/946-3158. One may also communicate in writing by addressing a letter to the Superintendent or District Principal at the School District of Gilmanton, P.O. Box 28, Gilmanton, WI 54743 or by e-mail to Kory Rud or Jill Alexander.
BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS: Board meetings are held monthly at 5:15 p.m. The meetings are normally held in the High School distance learning room. All meetings are open to the public except the closed session portion of the meeting. The Board may meet more than once a month. Because the school district does not have a designated newspaper, meeting agendas are posted on the school website and at the following locations in Gilmanton: Post Office, Restaurant, at the Gilmanton Elementary School entrance door, and the MS/HS/District Office building door #1.
There are three types of meetings – the regular meeting, the special meeting, and the closed session meeting or portions of a meeting. It is suggested that people who have a specific topic to discuss at a Board meeting should call the Superintendent at the District Office and ask to be placed on the agenda. Agendas are submitted for publication one week prior to the Board meeting, so the request would have to be made before that date.
Some information the Board receives such as specific employee and student financial, medical, social, or personal histories or disciplinary date must be held as confidential information. Such personnel and student issues along with the consideration of employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation of public employees, specific business involving competitive or bargaining issues, and other exemptions to the open meeting law as provided in Wisconsin State Statute 19.85 are conducted in closed session. Announcements must be made as to topics that will be discussed in the closed session.
Individuals wishing to address the Board during the Community Communication portion of the meeting need to state their name and place of residence before giving their presentation. Presentations are to be presented in a civil and orderly manner. The Board may impose time limitations for presentations and allow an individual the ability to give only one presentation at a given meeting. The Board will listen to presentations; but will not discuss, comment, or make decisions on the issues presented at that meeting unless it is an officially published agenda item. However, the Board may ask questions to clarify the intent of the presentation.
Regular and Special Board meetings are meetings of the Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the School District’s business and are not to be considered a public community meeting. There is a time for public participation during the meeting as indicated in the agenda.
Please come to observe your local government in action. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the School District of Gilmanton and programs sponsored for students.
